National Football League (NFL)
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major North American professional sports leagues, the highest professional level of American football in the world. The NFL’s 17-week regular season runs from early September to late December, with each team playing 16 games and having one bye week. Following the conclusion of the regular season, seven teams from each conference (four division winners and three wild card teams) advance to the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the Super Bowl, which is usually held in February. The league is headquartered in New York City.
American Football Conference (AFC)
The American Football Conference (AFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the world. The AFC was created after the NFL merged with the American Football League (AFL) in 1970. It consists of 16 teams organized into four divisions: North, South, East, and West.
Since 2002, the AFC has been home to the AFC Championship Game, played between the conference’s two divisional champions. The winner of this game goes on to play in the Super Bowl, the biggest and most important American football game of the year.
National Football Conference (NFC)
The NFC is one of the two conferences in the National Football League (NFL). It currently consists of 16 teams divided into four divisions. The conference was founded in 1970 as part of a merger between the NFL and the American Football League (AFL). The name “National Football Conference” is a reference to the original conference, which was founded in 1933.
The current NFC champions are the Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. The NFC has sent a representative to the Super Bowl every year since 1972, when the Miami Dolphins won Super Bowl VI.
